Camping at Timberland Lake Campground, Cream Ridge, NJ

Going on vacation does not have to be a week long trip far away.  A well planned weekend can turn into a miniature vacation just as well.  My family and I just came back from a camping trip.  We stayed at Timberland Lake Campground over the weekend.  This campground is located near Six Flags Great Adventure part (which we did not visit this time) and only 30 minutes away from home!

As the name of the camp suggests, it is situated around a lake.  To the left of the lake there is the office with the camp store, the bathroom, the pool and the playground for children to play.  All of the camp activities such as Bingo, face painting and DJ music take place there.  The other side of the lake is much more secluded and covered with tall trees.

Perth Amboy

Perth Amboy is a city in Middlesex County, New Jersey, US.
"Amboy" may have come from "Ompoge" an Algonquian name for the area.
Where does the Perth come from? By 1684, when the Earl of Perth became Lord High Chancellor under King James II, Gawen Lawrie arrived here as deputy governor with instructions from the proprietors to refer to Amboy as the town of Perth. The Earl of Perth was also one of the members of the Board of Proprietors. Even though he was arrested upon the abdication of King James II in 1688, the town was still referred to as Perth Amboy even though the Earl was confined until 1693.
During the early 1800's, Perth Amboy's waterfront was a bustling business center. It contained warehouses, eateries, rooming houses, stores with imported and local products, an outdoor produce market and docks. For many years, ferry service played an integral role in Perth Amboy for those looking to go to and from Staten Island. Begun in 1709, service finally stopped in 1963. Currently, ferry service is about to be restored for the first time in nearly 40 years.

Perth Amboy, NJ. Summer.
Lenni Lenape (the "true people") or the Delaware Indians,a group of several organized bands of Native American peoples, used these beaches for thousands of years before any of European settlers arrived. In 1651, it was deeded by the Lenni Lenape to Augustine Herman from Amsterdam. Later, this Native American place name became "Ambo", and then "Amboy" on English tongues.

Crown Princess
6/14/2006
The 113,000-ton Crown Princess ship departs today on its first Caribbean cruise with stops in Grand Turk, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and Port Canaveral, Florida.

7/18/2006
After departure from Port Canaveral at approximately 3:25 PM eastern time today, Crown Princess experienced an unexpected list to the starboard sid as she began sailing north towards her final port of New York.

Crown_Princess_NYC.jpg
